Make camp
Build a campfire, a lean-to and then a tent. Cook and smoke your food, and stay warm through cold, rainy nights.
Northern Hills is a cozy top-down pixel game about living off the land in the far northern forest. Gather wood and stone, build a campfire, and turn a lean-to into a tent, then a log cabin. Forage, fish and hunt, cook and smoke your food, dress for the weather, and keep the bears and wolves at bay.
Then go further. Past the old tree line lie ruins, bogs, a great lake with an island in it, and the mountains in the far north with caves to explore. Down the dirt road to the south, a little harbour village trades for coins.
You start with the clothes on your back. What you build from here is up to you.
Build a campfire, a lean-to and then a tent. Cook and smoke your food, and stay warm through cold, rainy nights.
Till fields of wheat and grow a kitchen garden of tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce and beets. Plant oaks and apple trees.
Fence in your own land, lure in wild rabbits and raise them into a proper rabbit farm.
Cast a line in the lake, track deer through the woods, pick berries, and keep an eye out for bears and wolves.
Dig bog iron from the marshes or mine ore deep in the caves, smelt it in your own forge, and make better tools.
Build a canoe and paddle to the island in the great lake for the hermit's plans, then raise a log cabin, stage by stage.
Emma the farmer, Lars the fisherman and Christian the smith will trade with you for coins down at the harbour.
The mountains in the far north hide caves full of iron, darkness and the sound of something breathing.
Start a world with a password, send friends a link, and make camp together in the same living forest.
Till the soil, sow your seeds. The songbirds return.
Long days, golden wheat and full nets.
Pick pumpkins and carve jack-o'-lanterns to light your camp.
The geese fly south. Dress warm and keep the fire fed.

Between the two caves in the mountains there is a third, far bigger, with something scratched on the rock beside it. "My grandmother used to say a jotun sleeps under it."
Break the stone across it, and what wakes in there will come for you in the dark. Light your fires, ready your bow, and hold on until dawn.
